I created this BLOG in hopes that my journey with my mother and her Alzheimer’s can help others. I list my daily posts below. I wanted to explain a little about my mother Alzheimer’s. She has helped me all my life with my journey of cerebral palsy. She is 88 years old and has had Alzheimer’s for at least 14 years now. I first noticed her memory problems back in the fall of 1997. She was able to keep driving and handling her check book until the winter of 2003/2004. She could still go on 2 mile hikes with me into 2005 and ½ mile walks thru 2008, now she mostly can only walk a few yards before her hip starts to hurt her. I moved back into her home in 2005 to help her stay in her house although I have kept my own place thru March 2011. One of the things I feel that has helped her go 14 years and still going is I’ve had people (mostly me) around her quit a bit. This helped her stay engaged with people. In 2003 she averaged people with her @90hrs/wk out of 168 hrs in a week, in 2004/2005/2006 @110hrs/wk, 2007 @125hrs/wk, 2008 @135hrs/wk. Then starting in January 2009 she has had someone with her 24/7. I started using care givers in 2005 to help and to give mom other women to talk to and get use to. Right now she can still dress and undress herself but is starting to struggle with it and needs to be told what to do most of the time. In December 2009 she started to refuse to wash herself now one of the care givers I use sponge bathes her 3 times a week. Right now mentally she is like a 4 to 6 year old girl with just a few seconds of memory. She has started to get confused with the getting undressed and dressed part but can still do it herself. She has also sometimes thought the person she sees in the bathroom mirror is someone else this started in 2010. I started using a diaper pad on mom’s bed in July 2011. She can still walk on her own with no help. Here is a list of the drugs and supplements she takes for her Alzheimer’s

Friday September 30th 2011
Mom did not have any bladder or bowel accidents overnight or
today. I woke mom up last night at
1:45am when I went to bed just to say goodnight not to get her up. This was
about 3 hours after she went to bed and she did get up and go to the bathroom
at 2:15am on her own. Then mom got up
after Andrea washed her this morning.
Andrea was able to get all of mom washed. Andrea said she was having trouble getting
mom to take her pills and mom ended up drinking a lot of milk. Mom was up and had finished breakfast by the
time I got up. Andrea said mom was a
handful today. I took off late this
morning and got in a short hike. It was
a beautiful day with cool temps. Since
it is close I went back to Columbia Bottom Conservation Area and hiked along
the river. I do enjoy getting out into
the woods. Shannon was here when I got
back home at 3pm and mom was in her bed napping. I got mom up shortly after I got home had her
go to the bathroom then we took a drive.
It was still a beautiful day and we drove to Sioux Passage Park. We talked about our normal things like houses
and trees. Some of the trees are
starting to change. I fixed dinner after
we got back and the last time mom had anything to eat or drink was at 5:30pm
and she went to bed at 11pm. We settled
in after dinner to watch some TV. Mom
talked about the wind blowing outside during dinner. Mom was quiet this evening but responsive
whenever I talked to her and I got her laughing several times. As normal I got some static when it came to
mom changing and taking off her pants.
Mom does get confused a lot these days but overall with me mom was happy
and talked about her normal amount. As
always I tell her I love her several times a day and I do thank god for making
me her son.
Thursday September 29th 2011
Mom did not have any bladder or bowel accidents overnight or
today. Mom slept last night for about 7
hours strait without having a bladder or bowel accident. So the Toviaz seemed to help 2 nights in a row
we will see if it works tonight. If this
pill keeps working and mom doesn’t show any side effects it will be good for
mom. This will allow her more sleep at
night. Andrea had mom feed and pills
down by the time I got up. I really
didn’t get in much walking before I had to do some errands. Mom was pleasant and sleepy today while
Andrea was here but up almost the whole day after I got home at 1:30pm. I had mom go to the bathroom a couple of times
and we watched some TV before we took our first drive of the day to Sioux
Passage Park. It was a beautiful but
much warmer day today with temps getting to 88.
Mom was fairly talkative at least for her on our drive today. We talked about the cars in the parking lot
to her they seem to be a lot of cars. We
also talked about the houses, trees and how beautiful the sky was. I fixed dinner when we got back so the last
time mom ate or drank anything today was at 5:30pm. I had mom take a bathroom break after dinner
then we took a second drive to Sioux Passage Park. On this drive mom was quieter but not by
much. Something I have noticed over the
past 2 days is that mom spends a little less time in the bathroom. Sometimes she is still in there for several
minutes but more of her bathroom stops are shorter. I’m not sure if that is due to the Toviaz or
not. After are second drive mom and I
settled in to watch a talent show on TV and talk some. I got mom laughing a few times and she was
enjoying her evening which she normally does.
Mom went to bed at 11pm and I did get some static on getting her to
change. Like normal the static comes
from confusion. Overall today mom has
been pleasant and happy.
Wednesday September 28th 2011
Mom did not have any bladder or bowel accidents overnight or
today. The Toviaz pill did help let mom
get more sleep at least last night. I
got her up every 4 hours instead of 2 hours and I think I could have gone
longer. Andrea had no problem getting
mom washed but taking her pills I had to help Andrea out to get mom to take her
pills. As normal I slept in. I did get in a hike today which felt
great. It was cloudy but cool. I went over to Columbia Bottom Conservation
Area and hiked along the river. Mom was
up most of the day with a few naps in her chair. I got back at 3:30pm and took mom for a drive
shortly after I got back. We drove out
to Sioux Passage Park our normal weekday drive.
We talked about several things from houses to the sky. Mom was a little more talkative than normal
on the first part of the drive. I fixed
dinner when we got back and the last time mom had anything to eat or drink was
at 5:15pm and she went to bed at 11pm.
We settled in after dinner to watch some TV and talk. Of course I told her I love her several
times. Mom has been sweet but confused
today. I had a fairly easy time getting
mom to change into her nightgown I thank god for that.
Tuesday September 27th 2011
Mom did not have any bladder or bowel accidents overnight or
today. I was getting mom up every 2 or 3
hours throughout the night. Since I let
mom sleep last night in her cloths I did not have to get her dressed before her
doctor appointment this morning. I had
Andrea come over at 7:30am incase I would need help with getting mom
ready. Andrea got mom up at 7:30 while I
took a shower and got ready. The
doctor’s office got us in right away and we only had to wait about 5 minutes
for the doctor. Even that was a longtime
for mom and she was getting restless wanting to leave. The doctor gave me some a 30 day sample of a
drug called Toviaz at 4mg that might help mom with the bladder accidents. Mom and I had breakfast together when we got
back before I took off. During breakfast
mom talked about the birds on the feeder.
I actually went to the park and caught a couple of hours sleep in my van
and then ran some errands before getting back at 1:30pm. Mom was up most of the time Andrea was here
napping some in her chair. Mom did nap
some in her chair after I got back home and I let her. It was a cloudy day but the temps were
nice. We drove over to Sioux Passage
Park before dinner. Mom talked about the
number of cars in some of the lots as well as the flowers we saw. Mom was cheerful and about her normal
talkativeness on our drive. During
dinner mom was quiet but cheerful. The
last time mom had anything to eat or drink was at 5:30pm and she went to bed at
11pm. We settled in after dinner to
watch TV and laugh a few times. Like
always I’m telling mom that I love her several times a day and she normally
repeats the same thing back to me. This
does help keep her and me in good spirits.
That being said mom was a bit of a handful tonight when it came to
changing into her nightgown and taking off her pants.
Monday September 26th 2011
Mom did not have any bladder or bowel accidents overnight or
today. Andrea was able to get mom washed
with little trouble. Mom would not put
her shirt on and take off her nightgown until I got back at 3:30pm. I slept in again today since I’m getting up
every couple of hours then I took off and ran some errands. I took mom for a drive shortly after I got
back home. It was a beautiful day with
temps in the 60’s. Mom and I drove out
to Sioux Passage Park before dinner. We
talked about the houses, trees and we saw some deer in Sioux Passage Park. Mom was a little more talkative on this
drive. During dinner mom was quiet but
sweet. The last time mom had anything to
eat or drink was at 5:30pm. This evening
we watched TV and a dance show. Mom has
been sweet all evening and we talked about our normal amount. Mom went to bed at 1am and since I have a
doctor appointment for mom tomorrow I’m letting her sleep in her cloths. It is hard to judge how long it will take on
any morning to get mom dressed. I pray
it will be an easy morning mom does not like going to the doctor’s office.
Sunday September 25th 2011
Mom did not have any bladder or bowel accidents overnight or
today. I had my friend Patti over today
while I went to church. I got mom up at
8am just before I left then had Patti feed her breakfast. I had a good time at church and meet the
people I normally do and had breakfast after church with them. Mom was up most of the time I was gone. I had mom go to the bathroom 2 times before
we took off on our drive. It was another
nice day with temps in the 60’s. We
drove along the river road to Grafton, Il stopping at the visitor center. There were more boats on the river today and
motorcycles. They had an old car show in
Grafton today so we saw several old cars driving down the river road. Mom and I also talked about the cliffs and
all the trees. Mom talked about her
normal amount on our drive. She was in a
good mood and happy for most of the day.
We watched some TV and napped some after our drive and before dinner. Mom talked about the birds on the feeder and
flowers at dinner. The last time mom had
anything to eat or drink was at 5:30pm.
We settled in for the night after dinner and watched TV. Mom was happy but quiet most of the night
except when I got her laughing by acting silly.
Mom went to bed at 2am and struggled with getting changed and taking off
the pants. Overall mom was in great
spirits but is getting more confused.
Saturday September 24th 2011
Mom did not have any bladder or bowel accidents overnight or
today. I had Schatcie come by this
morning to wash mom’s cloths from last nights dinner accident. I rinsed them out last night but had Schatcie
wash them today. I got mom up for the
day and breakfast about 10am of course I was getting her up every few hours
during the night. She did take several
minutes and 2 glasses of milk to take her pills. After breakfast I had mom go to the bathroom
2 times before taking our drive at noon time.
We drove along the river road to Grafton, IL stopping at the visitor
center. We talked about the river, boats
on the river. It was a partly sunny day
with temps in the 60’s. We didn’t see
very many boats or motorcycles today.
Some of the trees have started to change already. It looks like we are getting an early start
on fall. I had to take mom into the
women’s bathroom today. She gets
confused about going into the stall I pray we can keep taking these
drives. I will miss them when they are
over. I do enjoy driving with mom. Mom talked about her normal amount on the
drive and she was enjoying it. I fixed
lunch after we got back were mom talked about the birds on the feeder and
flowers. I waited a little while after
lunch to let mom take some bathroom trips before going on our second
drive. We took a drive to Sioux Passage
Park mom was quiet on the second part of the drive but then so was I. Mom was quiet during dinner and the last time
she had anything to eat or drink was at 6pm.
We just watched TV and talked the rest of the evening. Mom only napped a little in her chair after
dinner and so did I. Mom went to bed a
little after 1am so she was up most of the day.
She was confused on changing into her nightgown and fussed some but not
too bad. Overall mom has been very
pleasant and cheerful today.
Friday September 23rd 2011
Mom did have a bowel accident today as she finished her
dinner. Mom had this accident while she
was sitting at the dining room table.
This was the first time she has done a bowel accident while awake and it
was a big one. It was difficult to get
her to change she was having a hard time understanding. Andrea was able to get all of mom washed with
little trouble. Mom took awhile taking
her pills and drank a couple glasses of milk but the positive she got lots of
calcium and vitamin D. Mom was up and
dressed by the time I left. Andrea said
the word of the day was sleepy. Shannon
mom was in her chair sleeping off and on the 2 hours she was here. I didn’t do much today just grocery shopping
and some other errands while I was gone.
Today was cloudy even rained a little this morning with temps getting
into the upper 60’s. I got back home
around 3:30pm and took mom for a drive shortly after getting home. The sun tried breaking out a few times as we
drove to Sioux Passage Park. Mom and I
talked about the houses and yards as we drove.
Mom talked about her normal amount and was very pleasant. During dinner mom was quiet and like I said
that’s when she had her bowel accident.
I just had mom put on her nightgown after that and she then laid down
for awhile. This was nice because it
gave me a chance to clean her mess up. After
about an hour mom I got mom up to go to the bathroom and she was up the rest of
the evening until 1am. I will do my
normal routine these days of getting mom up every couple of hours. Overall mom has gotten more confused over the
past month or so even Andrea has noticed this as well. Today mom has been pleasant and happy most of
the day except for the changing after the bowel accident.
Thursday September 22nd 2011
Mom did not have any bladder or bowel accidents overnight or
today. I slept in so much that I barely
had enough time to go to the store. It
was a cloudy rainy day. Mom was up
dressed and feed by the time I got up.
Andrea said mom was restless and wondering around the house all
morning. Mom has been getting more
confused when I tell her to go to the bathroom.
It has gotten worse over the past couple weeks or so. Mom was up most of the morning and all
day. She would close her eyes some
during the day but not for more than a few minutes at a time. It took me a little time to get mom to go to
the bathroom this afternoon but we finally took a drive before dinner. We drove to Sioux Passage Park. It didn’t rain but was cloudy. We talked about the houses, flowers, clouds
and trees as we drove. Mom was pleasant
and for the most part enjoyed the drive.
During dinner mom was quiet and the last time she had anything to eat or
drink was at 5:15pm and she went to bed at 11pm. After dinner and I got mom to take some
bathroom trips we went for a second drive to Sioux Passage Park. On this drive both mom and I were quiet. We then settled in and watch TV the rest of
the evening and laughed a few times. Mom
let me shave her chin with no problem even smiling. Mom was confused and fussed some when it came
to changing into her nightgown. Overall
mom was pleasant and happy most of the afternoon and evening.
Wednesday September 21st 2011
Mom did have a bladder accident overnight. As normal I slept in some after Andrea got
here. Mom was awake when Andrea got here
so Andrea had a hard time getting mom washed and didn’t get all of mom
washed. Andrea was having a hard time
getting mom to get dress and take her pills.
So I ate breakfast and had mom take her pills as I ate. Mom talked about the birds on the feeder
during my breakfast. Andrea was able to
get mom’s pants on but I had to argue with mom some to get her to take off her
nightgown and put her shirt on. After we
got done with all that, mom was pretty pleasant and sweet the rest of the
day. Mom was more confused today than
her normal. After I left this morning I
got in a short hike along the Missouri river before going grocery shopping. It was a nice day with temps in the mid
70’s. Schatcie had said mom was up most
of the day and was up when I got back home at 3:30pm. Mom and went for a drive shortly after I got
back and before dinner. Mom was very
confused when I had her go to the bathroom.
She just didn’t understand what I was wanting, her to do. She did talk on our drive to Sioux Passage
Park. We talked about the houses how
pretty everything looked. We talked a
little more than our normal amount.
During dinner mom talked about the flowers. The last time mom had anything to eat or
drink was at 5:45pm and she went to bed at 10:30pm. I had her go to bed earlier tonight hoping
she will end up getting more sleep since she was up late last night and a lot
of today. I will get her up before I go
to bed around 2am. After dinner and the
news mom and I went for a second drive to Sioux Passage Park. On this drive we both were kind of
quiet. Then we settled in for an evening
of watching TV. We watched a new talent
show tonight that had a bunch of singing.
We ended up talking about our normal amount this evening. Mom was a little confused when I had her
brush the teeth and I had to help by putting the tooth paste on but she didn’t
fuss. I had no problem getting mom to
change into her nightgown and take her pants off.
Tuesday September 20th 2011
Mom did not have any bladder or bowel accidents today. I slept in again today after Andrea got
here. I then only had a couple hours
before I had to be back so I didn’t get in any hiking today. Mom was up feed but not fully dressed when I
left. Andrea said the word for the day
was handful. Mom was up most of the time
Andrea was here and had just laid down before I got back at 1:30pm. I got mom up shortly after I got home and we
went for a drive to Sioux Passage Park.
It was cloudy all day today but nice temps. Mom was more talkative on this drive than her
normal. We talked about the clouds,
trees, houses and flowers. We then took
a second drive to Sioux Passage Park before dinner. Mom and I both were quiet on most of this
drive. Mom was quiet during dinner as
well but responsive and pleasant. The
last time mom had anything to eat or drink was at 5:30pm. We settled in this evening and watched
TV. Mom was pleasant and happy this
evening we laughed a few times when I acted silly. I’m not sure if I mentioned this or not but I
have noticed mom is moving slower now most of the time. Mom went to bed tonight at 2:30am. We were watching some church programs that
had mostly singing and mom was enjoying it.
Overall today with me mom has been cheerful and didn’t fuss to much when
it came to changing into her nightgown.
Monday September 19th 2011
Mom did not have any bladder or bowel accidents today. Andrea was able to get mom washed but had
some trouble and had trouble getting mom to get dress. Mom took her pills with no problems. I slept in after Andrea got here since I’m
getting up so often at night. Mom was
eating her lunch when I left and still in her nightgown but was fully dressed
when I got back home at 3:30pm. Mom was
restless when Andrea was here and slept most of the time Shannon was here. I took mom for a drive shortly after I got
back to Sioux Passage Park. It was
cloudy with temps cool. Mom and I talked
about the flowers and houses as we drove.
Mom was quiet during dinner and the last time she had anything to eat or
drink was at 5:15pm. After dinner we
took a second drive to Sioux Passage Park before settling down for the
evening. Mom was pleasant but quiet on
this drive. She talked about her normal
amount this evening as we watched TV. Mom
went to bed around 1:30am and was pretty easy getting her to change
tonight.
Sunday September 18th 2011
Mom did not have any bladder accidents overnight or
today. I got mom up at 2:30am, 6:30am
and then at 9:30am. It normally takes
almost 1 hour each time when you count getting mom up and the time she spends
in the bathroom. I don’t push her on
getting up I just keep talking to her and kissing her and telling her I love
her. This helps keeping mom in good
spirits as I tell her to get up. Mom was
confused about changing this morning. Mom
took her pills right away today with no problem during breakfast. Mom talked about the flowers at
breakfast. After breakfast and bathroom
trips we took a drive to Sioux Passage Park.
It has been raining all day with just a few breaks and temps in the 60’s
so we stayed close to home. Mom napped
in her chair some after the drive and before lunch. Mom was quiet during lunch and most of the
day but she was responsive when I talked to her. I still tell mom several times a day that I
love her and she always enjoys hearing it.
Again after lunch and a bathroom trip we took another drive to Sioux
Passage Park. Mom talked more on this
drive than the first drive. Mom then
napped some in her chair between bathroom trips. Mom does go to the bathroom several times a
day it’s normal for her to be in there for awhile. During dinner mom talked about how still the
trees were. The last time mom had
anything to eat or drink was at 5:30pm.
We then just settled in and watched TV until mom went to bed at
midnight. Mom did nap some this evening
in her chair. Mom did fuss some when it
came to changing like I’ve said in the past it’s mostly from confusion on what
and why we do it. Overall mom has been
in good spirits and her normal confusion.
I will miss her when she is gone and I still remember the way she use to
be. I have had some people say that you
forget the way they were when you watch them go through this. Well those people were wrong I still remember
and will never forget.
Saturday September 17th 2011
Mom did not have any bladder accidents overnight or
today. I woke mom up today at 4:30am so
she could go to the bathroom then at 9am we got up for the day. At breakfast mom was quiet and took some
coaxing to get her to take her pills.
One cute thing with mom is she still makes her bed when she gets up and
she makes it very well like you would see in a motel. I didn’t have much trouble getting mom to
dress, I just had to explain what to do.
After a couple bathroom trips we took a drive to Sioux Passage
Park. It was raining a little off and on
all day with temps in the 60’s. So I
wanted to make sure the drive was short enough that we could get back home
before mom would need a bathroom break. During
lunch mom talked about the squirrels outside going up and down the tree. We took a second drive to Sioux Passage Park
after lunch. Mom and I talked about the
houses and flowers on our drives and mom was in good spirits all day. We watched some TV before dinner and napped
some. Mom talked about the flowers
during dinner and the last time she had anything to eat or drink was at 5:30pm
and she went to bed around 11:30pm. I
will get her up around 2:30am for a bathroom trip but I will be up until
then. After dinner we took a third drive
to Sioux Passage Park. On this drive mom
was fairly quiet and so was I. We then
watched TV until mom went to bed. I did
get some fussing when it came to changing.
Mom started to take the pants off then forgot and started putting them
back on and then she started fussing when I had her take them off. Overall today mom has talked about her normal
amount and has been pleasant.
Friday September 16th 2011
Mom did have a bladder accident this afternoon when Shannon
was here but mom didn’t get her pants wet just the panties. Andrea said she got mom completely
washed. Mom was up dressed and feed by
the time I got home. Andrea wasn’t
feeling well so after I got up she left.
Mom was up most of the day without many naps. I left after Shannon got here but only had
enough time to run some errands. Mom was
also up most of the time Shannon was here.
Mom has been very confused today about going to the bathroom. She would get to the bathroom and then not understand
way or what to do. Today was the worst I
have seen on this so far. Mom was quiet
but pleasant this afternoon and this evening.
During dinner mom talked about the flowers and the last time she had
anything to eat or drink was at 5:30pm.
After I was able to get mom to take a pee we went for a short drive this
evening. It was rainy so we didn’t go
very far but at least I did get mom out of the house. We just talked and watch TV the rest of the
evening until mom went to bed at midnight.
Mom was confused when it came to changing but she wasn’t fussing a lot
just not understanding. Overall today
mom has been quiet, responsive, confused but has been in a good mood I thank
god for that.
Thursday September 15th 2011
Mom did not have any bladder accidents overnight or
today. Andrea said mom was up making her
bed when she got here at 8:30am. Mom was
dressed and feed by the time I got up. It
was a beautiful day with temps this morning in the 60’s when I left. I just ran some errands and was back home by
1:30pm. Mom was pleasant while Andrea
was here and napped off and on in her chair in the TV room. I had mom take a couple bathroom breaks after
I got home before we went on a drive. We
drove to Sioux Passage Park by now the temps are around 70 with mostly sunny
skies. Mom was in great spirits on the
drive but we both were fairly quiet.
During dinner mom started conversations by saying the flowers are
pretty. The last time mom had anything
to eat or drink was at 5:30pm and she went to bed at 1am. I will wake her up around 4am to go to the
bathroom. After dinner and a bathroom
stop we took a second drive to Sioux Passage Park just before dark. It actually got dark on the drive back. Mom talked about the lack of street
lights. We then just watched TV the rest
of the night. Mom was about her normal
self. I had no problem really getting
mom to change. At least no fussing she
was somewhat confused but not as confused as sometimes.
Wednesday September 14th 2011
Mom did have a bladder accident this morning when she got
up. Andrea said mom did it in the
bathroom because the sheets and diaper pad were dry. Andrea said mom was so tired that she had no
problem getting mom washed and got mom washed very well. Since I didn’t go to bed until 4am I slept
in. Mom was up and feed by the time I
got up. Andrea was having trouble
getting mom to put her clothes on. Since it was going to rain all day I told
Andrea to just let mom stay in her nightgown.
Mom was sleepy all day with both Andrea and Schatcie and slept most of
the day in her chair. I just ran some
errands and took a nap while I was gone.
Mom was in the bathroom when I got home.
Since it was rainy outside mom and I just watched some TV before dinner. Mom also napped some after I got home and
after dinner. During dinner mom was
quiet but in a good mood. The last time
mom had anything to eat or drink was at 5:30pm and she went to bed at 1:30am. We watched a talent show and a few movies
tonight. Mom tries to talk sometimes but
it is hard to understand what she is trying to say at times. Mom was in good spirits tonight and overall
today but sleepy during the morning and afternoon.
Tuesday September 13th 2011
Mom did not have any bladder accidents overnight or
today. As normal I slept in this morning
after Andrea got here. Mom was up
dressed and feed by the time I got up and took my shower. I didn’t have much time today when I left and
needed to be back. I just ran some
errands. Mom was quiet but pleasant when
Andrea was here. I had the pastor come
by today at 2pm and he was here talking to mom and I for about 30 minutes then
said a prayer for us. Mom even said amen
after the prayer. Mom and I took a drive
shortly after the pastor left to Sioux Passage Park. It was a sunny hot day with temps getting
into the 90’s. Mom and I both were quiet
for most of the drive but mom was in good spirits. I fixed dinner shortly after we got
back. During dinner mom talked about the
flowers. The last time mom had anything
to eat or drink was at 5:30pm and she went to bed around midnight. After dinner we both took a short nap in our
chairs watching TV. Both of us were
tired. We then watched a talent show and
some other TV shows the rest of the evening.
Mom’s memory is getting bad sometimes she starts for the bathroom then
forgets she was going to the bathroom.
So I lovingly remind her. I
didn’t get a lot of fussing tonight when it came to changing mom was just
confused.
Monday September 12th 2011
Mom did have a bowel accident today just after lunch. She didn’t get her pants wet mom just didn’t
get her panties down fast enough. Mom
then had a bladder accident just as I was getting home. Andrea said mom was easy to wash today and
that she got mom washed well. Since I’m
up so late at night these days I slept in.
Andrea had mom washed and feed by the time I got up. Mom was in watching TV and half napping when
I ate my breakfast. When I was leaving
mom was just getting ready for lunch. I
didn’t get a chance to hike today I just ran some errands. It was a sunny day but the temps did get up
to 90 so it was a little warm. Mom had
just gotten out of the bathroom when I got home and that’s when I noticed she
was wet. So Shannon and I got her pants
changed, which wasn’t easy. I took mom
for a drive shortly after I got home to Sioux Passage Park. We talked about the houses and different
flowers as we drove. Mom was talkative
on the first part of the drive. I fixed
dinner when we got back. Mom was quiet
but happy during dinner. The last time
mom had anything to eat or drink was at 5:15pm.
Then after a couple bathroom stops we took another drive to Sioux
Passage Park before settling down for the evening. We watched TV and talked until mom went to
bed at midnight. I really didn’t have
much trouble tonight getting mom to brush or change into her nightgown. Overall mom talked about her normal amount
and was pleasant.
Sunday September 11th 2011
Mom did have 3 bladder accidents overnight and this
morning. I went to church this morning
and left mom in Patti’s capable hands.
Since I had Patti staying overnight she took care of getting mom up and
feeding her this morning. It was a
little warmer today with temps getting into the 80’s but still much better than
the 100’s we were getting. After church
I took mom for a drive along the river road to Grafton stopping at the visitor
center there for a bathroom break. We
didn’t see as many sailboats today as like we did the last time. We did see a bunch of speed boats and
motorcycles. Mom and I also talked about
the cliffs and how big the river is. Mom
talked about her normal amount today on our drive. Of course as normal I had mom go to the
bathroom a couple of times before leaving on our longer drive. I gave mom a snack after our drive and then
she took a nap in her chair before dinner.
During dinner mom talked about the flowers. The last time mom had something to eat or
drink was at 5:30pm. Then after dinner
and a couple bathroom breaks we took a drive to Sioux Passage Park. On this drive both mom and I were quiet. Mom has also started awhile back not always
recognizing her house after we pull onto the carport. We watched TV and laughed
the rest of the evening until mom went to bed at midnight. As normal I did get some fussing when it came
to mom changing into her nightgown and taking off her pants. I will wake mom up around 3am to go to the
bathroom which is when I’m finishing this post.
I took some time just watching TV and relaxing after mom went to sleep
and before finishing this post.
Saturday September 10th 2011
Mom did not have any bladder accidents overnight. It was a rainy day off and on so mom and I
just took a couple short drives to Sioux Passage Park. Mom was her normal self but quiet. I had my friend Patti come over at 4:30pm and
spent the night so I could go to the baseball game with a friend and then go to
church on Sunday. It was a good time
Saturday night. My friend and I are now
8 wins no loses on Cardinal games. It
was a beautiful night for a baseball game with temps in the low 70’s. We then went out and celebrate. It was great getting out in the evening for a
night and not have to worry about mom and unwind.
Friday September 9th 2011
Mom did not have any bladder accidents overnight or
today. It took me along time to get mom
up at 6am to go to the bathroom. I just
talked to her keeping her from going back to sleep until her system told her it
was time for the bathroom. Pure mom was
so tired she wasn’t making any sense with her talking. It was like talking from a dream. Andrea had an easy time today getting mom
washed but had trouble getting mom to take her pills it just took longer than
normal. Today mom has been up the whole
time Andrea and Shannon were here. It was a rainy day so I didn’t get in any
hiking but did errands instead. I also
parked in the park and took a nap. Mom
was quiet the 8 hours Andrea and Shannon were here today. Mom was up watching TV when I got home at
3:30pm but since it was raining we did not take any drives but instead took a
little nap before dinner. At dinner mom
talked about the flowers and talked more than her normal. The last time mom had anything to eat or
drink was at 5:30pm. We spent the night
watching TV and laughed a few times but mom has been quiet but responsive
tonight. Mom went to bed at 2am and fussed about changing into her nightgown
and take off her pants.
