Updated on May 11th 2012 my updates are in bold below
I created this BLOG in hopes that my journey with my mother and her Alzheimer’s can help others. I list my daily posts below. I wanted to explain a little about my mother Alzheimer’s. She has helped me all my life with my journey of cerebral palsy. My website that talks about my cerebral palsy and my climbing adventures is at www.timsashwood.com if you want to check it out. She is 90 years old and has had Alzheimer’s for at least 15 years now. I first noticed her memory problems back in the fall of 1997. She was able to keep driving and handling her check book until the winter of 2003/2004. She could still go on 2 mile hikes with me into 2005 and ½ mile walks thru 2008, now she mostly can only walk a few yards before her hip starts to hurt her. I moved back into her home in 2005 to help her stay in her house although I have kept my own place thru March 2011. One of the things I feel that has helped her go 15 years and still going is I’ve had people (mostly me) around her quit a bit. This helped her stay engaged with people. In 2003 she averaged people with her @90hrs/wk out of 168 hrs in a week, in 2004/2005/2006 @110hrs/wk, 2007 @125hrs/wk, 2008 @135hrs/wk. Then starting in January 2009 she has had someone with her 24/7. I started using care givers in 2005 to help and to give mom other women to talk to and get use to. Right now she can still dress and undress herself but is starting to struggle with it and needs to be told what to do most of the time. In December 2009 she started to refuse to wash herself now one of the care givers I use sponge bathes her 3 times a week. Right now mentally she is like a 3 or 4 year old girl with just a few seconds of memory. She has started to get confused with the getting undressed and dressed part but can still do it herself. She has also sometimes thought the person she sees in the bathroom mirror is someone else this started in 2010. I started using a diaper pad on mom’s bed in July 2011. In the fall of 2011 we increased the dosage on mom’s Galantamine. In March of 2012 I stopped giving her the supplements it has started to get harder to get her to take the pills. So I started just giving her a one a day vitamin instead. Then in May 2012 we have started to crush mom’s pills and put them in applesauce about 3 or 4 days a week. She loves applesauce. She can still walk on her own with no help. Here is a list of the drugs she takes for her Alzheimer’s.
•Razadyne started in 2000 then in 2011 changed to generic Galantamine
•Namenda started March 2005
Sunday March 31st 2013 Easter Day
Mom did have a bowel accident during the morning sometime
when Patti was here. I had my friend
Patti over to watch mom while I went for Easter service at church. The service today was great I really enjoyed
the worship part quit the production. I
had brunch afterwards with some friends like I normally do. Mom was resting in the TV room when I got
home. Patti said mom was sweet early on
then kind of poopy after her bowel accident.
It was a sunny day with temps in the 60’s. We took a drive shortly after I got home
along the river road partway to Grafton IL and Sioux Passage Park on the way
home. We saw a couple of boats on the
river and several people on the hike/bike trail. We mostly talked about the river, birds and
houses on the cliff tops. Mom was fairly
talkative on parts of the drive and quiet on other parts. We took a short nap after our drive. We did talk to my brother Paul and his wife
Kay over SKYPE before dinner. The last
time mom ate was 6pm and she went to bed at 1am. We watched the last part of the bible series
on the History channel this evening. I
really enjoyed the whole series. We also
talked to my brother Larry over SKYPE this evening after the series on the
bible. Mom was up and fairly alert most
of the evening for her at least. She did
start getting tied by the end of the evening and even napped a little before
bed. Overall with me today mom was in
good spirits. I will miss even these days
when she is gone.
Saturday March 30th 2013
Mom did have a messy bowel accident in the morning after
breakfast. We got up for the day at
9:30am. After I cleaned up mom we went
for a drive. It was a cloudy day but not
bad temps. On this drive we just drove
to Sioux Passage Park then Sunset Park.
Mom was fairly quiet on this drive.
I fixed lunch when we got back then after a bathroom trip we took a
drive. This time we drove along the
river road partway to Grafton IL. Mom
was much more talkative on this drive at least parts of it. It started to rain a little on our way back
home and then rained most of the evening.
We then napped some before dinner.
The last time mom ate was 6pm and she went to bed at midnight. We spent the evening watching TV and
laughing. Mom was up most of the evening
and I changed her when she was in the bathroom.
Friday March 29th 2013
Mom did not have any bladder or bowel accidents overnight or
today. Mom was up, washed, fed, and
dressed when I got up. I ate breakfast
while mom ate her lunch. It was a partly
sunny day with temps in the 60’s. I did
some playing and running errands while I was away. Mom was watching TV/sleeping when I got home
at 4:30pm. Andrea said her word of the
day for mom was sleepy and Patti said hers was contagious. I took mom for a short drive to Sioux Passage
Park before dinner. Mom was fairly quiet
on the drive. The last time mom ate was
6:30pm and she went to bed at 12:30am.
We spent the evening watching TV and laughing with mom napping half the
time. I did my new thing of changing mom
in the bathroom into her nightgown. Like
I have said I take her shirt and pants off there and she can still put the
nightgown on herself.
Thursday March 28th 2013
Mom did not have any bladder or bowel accidents overnight or
today. Mom was up, fed, and dressed when
I got up. Andrea wasn’t here long today
she had to leave by noon. So I just had
enough time to play a little and pray before getting back by noon. Andrea said her word of the day for mom was
talkative. Mom was finishing her lunch
when I got home. It was a partly sunny
day with temps in the 50’s. We took a
drive shortly after I got home. We had
the biggest snow storm earlier this week since 1982 and there is still some
snow making the trees and ground look wintery one week into spring. We drove along the river road partway to
Grafton IL then past Sioux Passage Park on the way back. We did not see anybody on the hike/bike
trail. We did see several boats and one
barge. One of the boats was a sailboat a
ketch but was running under the engine not the sails. Like normal we talked about the houses on the
cliff and boats on the river. Mom talked
about her normal amount overall but parts of the drive she talked a lot. We both napped after our drive until
dinner. The last time mom ate was 5:30pm. We spent the evening watching TV and
laughing. Mom did do a lot of wondering
around the house the first part of the evening.
She was very unsettled but at least she got some exercise walking around
the house. I changed mom when she was in
the bathroom and she went to bed at 1am.
Wednesday March 27th 2013
Mom did not have any bladder or bowel accidents overnight or
today. Mom was up, washed, fed, and
dressed when I got up. I ate breakfast
as mom ate her lunch. I left to do some
playing, praying and run some errands before getting back by 5pm. Andrea said her word of the day for mom was
alert. Patti heated up our dinner for
mom and I at 5pm. We spent the evening
watching TV and laughing with mom not wondering around the house. I changed mom into her nightgown when she was
in the bathroom it was easier. Also mom
was fairly easy to get to brush her teeth.
Mom was more alert tonight as well than normal not napping until closer
to bedtime.
Tuesday March 26th 2013
Mom did not have any bladder or bowel accidents overnight or
today. Mom was up, fed, and dressed when
I got up. I met up with a friend today
for lunch. We ate at our normal place
Applebee’s. It was great getting out and
visiting with a friend over lunch. I
then did some playing and praying until I got back home by 5pm. Andrea said her word of the day for mom was
attentive and Patti said hers was alert.
We ate dinner when I got home so the last time mom ate was 5:30pm and
went to bed at midnight. We watched TV
and laughed during the evening. Mom did
not wonder around tonight and was fairly active and alert for her at least. She does like to stare at me sometimes and
has been doing that for months now. She
has different stares some are for trying to figure out who I am, some are just
because I’m more interesting than what is on TV, some are I want to talk and
some are I need to go to the bathroom.
Those are some of the kinds of stares at least. I changed mom tonight while she was in the
bathroom. I just take her pants of then
her shirt and leave the nightgown hanging in there and she puts that on
herself.
Monday March 25th 2013
Mom did have a bladder accident just before I got home by
5pm. Mom was up, washed, fed, and
dressed when I got up. I had the final
electrician out today to give estimate now I will decide who will do the
work. Since I got up early and was up
late I slept in until after noontime before eating brunch and leaving. I just went over to Columbia Bottom
Conservation Area played and prayed until getting back home by 5pm. Andrea said her word of the day for mom was
friendly. Since mom had her accident
just before dinner I had Patti put mom into the nightgown. I fixed dinner when I got home so the last
time mom ate was 5:30pm. We spent the
night watching TV and laughing. Mom went
to bed at 11pm.
Sunday March 24th 2013
Mom did not have any bladder or bowel accidents overnight or
today. It was snowing this morning so
Patti did not come over and I did not go to church. Mom and I got up for the day at 8:30am. Since it was a snowy day with 30 degree temps
I left mom in her nightgown all day. After
a bathroom trip I fixed breakfast for both of us. Mom then spent 2 hours sitting in the
bathroom. Since she spent so much time
there it was time for lunch when she got out.
Then she napped some before going back into the bathroom. She was in the bathroom about 1 ½ hours then
we ate dinner at 5pm. So the last time
she ate was 5:30pm then went into bathroom but not very long this time. We spent the evening watching TV and
laughing. Mom was hard tonight to get
her to brush the teeth, I had to do it myself.
Mom has also been sort of huggy today and is a lot of the time. Mom likes to put her head into my shoulder
when I hug her. Mom went to bed at
midnight and was already in her nightgown.
Saturday March 23rd 2013
Mom did not have any bladder or bowel accidents overnight or
today. Patti came over while I went to
my wild at heart boot camp men’s meeting.
So mom was sleeping when I left.
It was a cloudy day with temps in the 50’s and we will be getting snow
tomorrow even though the calendar says spring LOL. Patti said mom was happy this morning. I took mom for a drive when I got home at
noon. We drove along the river road to
Grafton IL then Sioux Passage Park on the way back. We saw no boats but some barges on the river
and several people on the hike/bike trail.
We talked about the houses on the cliffs, cars in parking lots and the
river. Mom was fairly talkative on parts
of the drive and quiet on other parts but I was very tired so I didn’t try to
talk much myself. We both took naps when
we got back until dinner. The last time
mom ate was 5:30pm and she went to bed at 11pm.
Tonight I changed her in the bathroom into her nightgown it seems easier
that way at least sometimes. I do it
while she goes in to take care of her nature call. We spent the evening watching TV and laughing
when I acted silly that almost always gets her to laugh. Mom did bot wonder around the house tonight.
Friday March 22nd 2013
Mom did not have any bladder or bowel accidents overnight or
today. Andrea was sick today so she was
here 30 minutes. Mom and I got up for
the day at 8:30am went to bathroom then I fixed her breakfast. After breakfast we watched some TV then mom
bathroom break and mom and I both napped until Patti got here at 1pm. I left mom in her nightgown all day so no
need to change. I left and even got in a
short walk before go to grocery store and getting back by 5:30pm. Patti said mom was friendly and alert today. We had dinner when I got home then watched TV
all night. Mom was more alert this
evening as well. Mom went to bed at
midnight.
Thursday March 21st 2013
Mom did not have any bladder or bowel accidents overnight or
today. I had two estimates this morning
for electrical work replacing the fuse box and the worn out wiring on the side
of the house. It is so bad that water
can come into the fuse panel. I really
didn’t have much time to get away before being back by 3pm so I ran some
errands. Andrea said her word of the day
for mom was cheerful. I took mom for a
drive when I got home she had just gotten out of the bathroom. It was a sunny and slightly warmer day than
yesterday. We drove along the river road
to Grafton IL then to Sioux Passage Park on the way home. We saw no boats or barges on the river but
did see a few people on the bike/hike trail.
Mom was quieter than normal on this drive. I fixed dinner when we got back so the last
time mom ate was 6pm. We spent the night
watching TV and laughing until mom went to bed at 10:30pm. Overall with me mom was nice but quieter than
her normal. Mom needed her normal amount
of help with changing.
Wednesday March 20th 2013
Mom did have a bladder accident right after dinner that
Patti cleaned up since I was gone. Mom
was up, washed, fed, and dressed when I got up.
I ate breakfast with mom eating her lunch. I wasn’t feeling good so I spent most of the
day sleeping while Andrea took care of mom.
After a lot of sleep and prayer I was feeling good by 2pm. I had an electrician over at 3:30pm to give
an estimate on some electrical work that needs to be done. I have 2 more estimates set up for tomorrow
morning and 1 next Monday morning. Andrea
said her word of the day for mom was sweet.
I left for just about 1 ½ hours to at least get out on my own while I
had Patti feed mom. It was a sunny but
cold day with temps in the 30’s. I took
mom for a drive to Sioux Passage Park when I got home. It is nice that the sun doesn’t go down until
7pm now a, days. Mom was fairly quiet on
our drive. We spent the evening watching
TV and laughing. I tried tonight getting
mom into her nightgown while she was in the bathroom it worked out fairly
easy. It was also fairly easy getting
mom to brush her teeth. Mom went to bed at
midnight and was very sweet today.
Tuesday March 19th 2013
Mom did not have any bladder or bowel accidents overnight or
today. Mom was up, fed, and dressed when
I got up. I ate breakfast with mom
eating her lunch. The city came over
this morning to permit the work that the plumber did yesterday. I ended up with just enough time to take a
short drive before getting back by 2pm.
Andrea said her word of the day for mom was helpful. The pastor came over today at 2pm and stayed
for about 30 minutes. I took mom for a
drive after the pastor left. We drove
along the river road partway to Grafton IL then Sioux Passage Park on the way
back. We saw no boats or barges on the
river and no one on the bike/hike trail.
Mom talked about her normal amount on our drive mostly on the houses at
top of cliffs and cars in parking lots.
Mom took a bathroom break when we got home then I fixed dinner so the
last time mom ate was 5:30pm and she went to bed at 11pm. We spent the evening watching TV and laughing
with mom not napping but did wonder around the house a couple of times. Mom was much easier to get changed and
overall in good spirits today.
Monday March 18th 2013
Andrea said mom did have 2 bowel accidents sometime after I
left at 11am and she left at 2:30pm. I
got up way before mom today since I had the plumber out to fix the stack under
the master bathroom. So today I ate my
breakfast while mom was eating hers. The
plumber was on time and looks like he did a good job. Andrea said her word of the day for mom was
poopy. I ran a bunch of errands after
the plumber left then grabbed some lunch and went over to the Columbia Bottom
Conservation Area before getting back home by 5pm. We had dinner when I got home then watched TV
and laughed with mom napping some. Mom
did not wonder around the house tonight.
Mom is also needed more help and instruction with brushing her
teeth. Overall with me mom was fairly
sweet and quiet. The last time mom ate
was 5:30pm and she went to bed at midnight.
Mom needed her normal amount of help with changing tonight.
Sunday March 17th 2013
Mom did not have any bladder or bowel accidents overnight or
today. Mom was sleeping when I left for
church. Patti got mom up and fed while I
was in church. I had Patti leave mom in
her nightgown because it was a rainy afternoon and I knew I would not be taking
mom for a drive. We both napped most of
the afternoon until dinner. So the last
time mom ate was 5pm and went to bed at 1am.
We spent the night watching TV and laughing and napped a little.
Saturday March 16th 2013
Mom did not have any bladder or bowel accidents overnight or
today. I had Patti over while I went to
the wild at heart retreat. Patti had mom
fed, pills taken and dressed when I got back home at 11:30am. I first took mom over to get her hair washed
and cut when I got home. It went fairly
easy breezy with both washing and cutting of mom’s hair my prayers worked again
praise the lord. We then went for a
drive along the river road part way to Grafton IL and Sioux Passage on the way
back. We then napped until dinner. It started to rain so after dinner we just
stayed in and watched TV with both of us going to bed around 11pm. Mom needed her normal amount of help with
changing.
Friday March 15th 2013
Mom did not have any bladder or bowel accidents overnight or
today. Mom was up, washed, fed, and
dressed when I got up. I ate breakfast
with mom eating her lunch. It was a
cloudy day with temps in the 60’s. I
just ran some errands before getting back by 2pm. Andrea said her word of the day for mom was
lovey-dovey. My and I took a drive
around 3pm. We drove along the river
road to Grafton IL. Mom talked about her
normal amount on our drive. We saw several
barges but no other boats on the river.
There were several people out on the hike/bike trail enjoying the spring
like temps. I fixed dinner when we got
back so the last time mom ate was 5:30pm.
I had Patti over this evening so I could go to the men’s fraternity
graduation get together. I was back around
9:30pm and Patti had already put mom into her nightgown. Patti said her word of the evening for mom
was curious. Mom and I watched TV with
mom napping some when I got home. Mom
went to bed at 12:30am.
Thursday March 14th 2013
Mom did not have any bladder or bowel accidents overnight or
today. Mom was up, fed, and dressed when
I got up. I had 2 people come out today
to give estimates on fixing the leak in the stack for the master bathroom. I just got enough time to run up and get a
soda before getting back for the 2 estimate.
So today I didn’t get away because Andrea left at 2:30pm. Andrea said her word of the day for mom was
sleepy. It was a rainy morning then
cloudy afternoon with temps in the 50’s.
We went for a drive at 2:30pm along the river road to Grafton IL and
going to Sioux Passage Park on the way back.
We saw no boats or barges on the river but did see some people out on
the hike/bike trail. Mom was fairly
talkative and alert on the drive along the river but normal amount of talk on
the rest of the drive. As normal we
mostly talked about the houses on the cliffs, number of cars in the parking
lots and the river. I fixed dinner when
we got back so the last time mom ate was 5:30pm. We spent the evening watching TV and laughing
with mom napping some. Mom went to bed
at 1am and needed her normal amount of help with changing into her
nightgown.
Wednesday March 13th 2013
Mom did not have any bladder or bowel accidents overnight or
today. Mom was up, fed, washed and
dressed when I got up. I had 2 people
come out this morning to give estimates on fixing the leak in the stack for the
master bathroom. I have 2 more coming
out tomorrow then I will decide on who gets the job. Good thing we have 2 bathrooms since I can’t
use the master bathroom right now. I ate
breakfast after the 2 estimates so I ate breakfast while mom ate lunch. It was a partly sunny day with temps in the
40’s. I was able to get away and got in
some praying, playing and errands before getting back by 4:30pm. Andrea said her word of the day for mom was
affable and Patti said hers was busy with mom walking around the house a lot
and fairly talkative. I took mom for a
drive when I got home. We took a short
drive to Sioux Passage Park. Mom talked
about her normal amount on the drive. We
had dinner when we got back so the last time mom ate was 6pm and she went to
bed at midnight. We spent the evening
watching TV and laughing with mom talking more than normal. Mom was fairly easy to get to brush her teeth
and about normal amount of help with changing.
Tuesday March 12th 2013
Mom did have a bladder accident this morning sometime after
Andrea got here. I got up earlier this
morning so I could call some plumbers one of the stacks downstairs is leaking,
the stack for the master bathroom. The
joys of having a house lol. I will get
some estimates then choice which one to use.
I used Angie’s list then matched those against the BBB and picked 4 to
call. It was a sunny day with temps in
the 40’s. I did get a chance to get in a
short walk before getting back by 2:30pm.
I went over to Columbia Bottom Conservation Area and walked along the
Missouri river. The river is now higher
than normal with all the rain we have gotten lately. Mom was watching TV when I got back
home. Andrea said mom was up and down
walking around the house and her word of the day for mom was independent. After a short nap by mom we went for a drive
before dinner. We drove along the river
road partway to Grafton IL. We saw 1
barge on the river and several people on the hike/bike trail. Mom talked more than normal and was alert on
our drive. We mostly talked about the
houses on the cliffs, number of cars in parking lots and the river. I fixed dinner when we got back so the last
time mom ate was 5:30pm. We spent the
evening watching TV and laughing with mom napping some. It was very easy getting mom to brush her
teeth.
Monday March 11th 2013
Mom had a bowel accident this morning around 10am shortly
after breakfast. Andrea had mom up fed
and dressed by the time I got at noon. I
just did some playing and praying the time I was gone. Andrea said her word of the day for mom was
dear Patti’s was sweet. Mom was watching
TV when I got home by 5pm. We had dinner
when I got home then just watched TV and napped some before mom went to bed at
10:45pm. Mom was sweet but a bit tired
tonight. Mom needed her normal amount of
help getting changed into her nightgown.
Sunday March 10th 2013
Mom did have a bladder accident this afternoon she was still
in her nightgown since I did not have Patti dress her, so I just put on a
different nightgown. It was a rainy day
so mom and I did not go for a drive. I
had Patti over this morning while I went to church. Patti fed and gave mom her pills and said her
word of the day for mom was busy. Mom
was wondering around the house and reading cards out loud to Patti. Mom’s mind was being alert. I met up with my friends at church like
normal and had brunch after the services.
Mom and I napped most of the afternoon until dinner time. We ate dinner at 5pm then watched TV all
evening. Mom went to bed at
midnight.
Saturday March 9th 2013
Mom did not have any bladder or bowel accidents overnight or
today. Mom was sleeping when I left for
my men’s retreat. I had Patti over while
I was gone. Patti fed mom gave her the
pills in applesauce and got her dress while I was gone. Patti said her word of the day for mom was
very sweet. Mom napped a little when I
got home then it stopped raining and we went for a drive. We drove along the river road to Grafton IL
then Sioux Passage and Sunset Parks on the way back. Mom was fairly talkative on this drive and
alert. We saw a couple barges and
several people on the hike/bike trail. I
fixed dinner when we got back so the last time mom ate was 6pm and she went to
bed at 11pm. We spent the evening
watching TV and laughing. Mom needed her
normal amount of help with changing.
Friday March 8th 2013
Mom did not have any bladder or bowel accidents overnight or
today. Mom was sleeping when I left for
my men’s fraternity meeting this was my last one, it started back in
September. I did my normal stop for
breakfast afterwards then nap time. I
only got about 1 hour of sleep last night.
After my nap I went for a haircut then grocery shopping before getting back
home by 4:30pm. Andrea said her word of
the day for mom was sleepy and Patti said hers was tired. It was a partly sunny day with temps in the
50’s when I got home. Mom went to the
bathroom when I got home and before our drive.
We took a short drive to Sioux Passage Park before getting back for
dinner. Mom was a bit quieter on this
drive and we mostly talked about the cars in the parking lots. We had dinner when we got back so the last
time mom ate was 5:45pm. We spent the
evening watching TV and laughing. Mom
did do a lot of wondering around the house this evening. I think she was more awake tonight after
sleeping most of the day. Tonight mom’s
system was telling her when to go to the bathroom before she wet her
pants. This was the first time on this
in a long time. Mom went to bed at 10pm
and needed less help than her normal with changing.
Thursday March 7th 2013
Mom did not have any bladder or bowel accidents overnight or
today. Mom was up, dressed and fed when
I got up. I ate my breakfast as mom ate
her lunch. I just had enough time to do
a little playing and praying before getting back by 2:30pm. It was a sunny day with temps in the 40’s. Andrea said her word of the day for mom was
alert. Mom was in watching TV when I got
home. Mom did take a short nap before we
went for a drive. We drove along the
river road part way to Grafton IL then stopping by Sioux Passage Park on the
way back. Mom was more alert and
talkative on this drive pointing things out herself. We saw no boats or barges on the river and no
one on the hike/bike trail. We mostly
talked about the houses on the cliffs, the river and number of cars in the
parking lots. We ate dinner when we got
back so the last time mom ate was 6:30pm and she went to bed at 11:30pm. We spent the evening watching TV and laughing
with mom up most of the evening. Mom did
not do her thing of walking around the house to much tonight. She was fairly alert this evening as
well. Mom was also easier to get changed
tonight.
Wednesday March 6th 2013
Mom did not have any bladder or bowel accidents overnight or
today. Mom was up, washed, dressed and
fed when I got up. I ate my breakfast as
mom ate her lunch. I just had enough
time to do a little playing, run errands and praying before getting back by
5pm. Andrea said her word of the day for
mom was reserved and Patti said hers was quiet.
Mom was in the bathroom when I got home.
It was a sunny day with temps in the 30’s. We ate dinner when I got home so the last
time mom ate was 5:30pm. We spent the
evening watching TV and laughing tonight with mom napping some. Mom also did her thing of wondering around
the house for a few minutes this evening.
Mom went to bed at 11pm and needed her new normal amount of help with
changing. Overall tonight mom was quiet
but cheerful.
Tuesday March 5th 2013
Mom did not have any bladder or bowel accidents overnight or
today. Mom was up, dressed and fed when
I got up. I ate my breakfast as mom ate
her lunch. I just had enough time to do
a little playing and praying before getting back by 2:30pm. Andrea said her word of the day for mom was
content. Mom was in the bathroom when I
got home. It was a cloudy snowy day with
temps in the 30’s. It snowed some in the
morning then again in the evening. We
took a drive after I got home. We drove
along the river road part way to Grafton IL then Sioux Passage Park on the way
back. We saw no boats or barges on the
river. Also saw no one on the hike/bike
trail. We talked a little less than our
normal during the drive. I fixed dinner
shortly after we got home so the last time mom ate was 5:30pm. We spent the evening watching TV and laughing
with mom napping some. Mom was sweet
tonight and also did not wonder around the house. Mom went to bed at 10pm and was fairly easy
to get changed into her nightgown.
Monday March 4th 2013
Mom did not have any bladder or bowel accidents overnight or
today. Mom was up, washed, dressed and
fed when I left. I spent my day away
just playing, running errands and praying.
Andrea said her word of the day for mom was affectionate and Patti said
hers was quiet but was walking around the house a lot. Mom was in the bathroom when I got home by
5pm. We ate dinner when I got home so
the last time mom ate was 5:30pm and she went to bed at midnight. We spent the evening watching TV with mom
napping a little. We also talked to my
brother Larry over SKYPE for a few minutes.
Mom wondered around the house some and was a bit grumpy by the end of
the night. Mom needed more help than
normal with changing into her nightgown and I had to brush her teeth tonight
myself.
Sunday March 3rd 2013
Mom did not have any bladder or bowel accidents today or
overnight. Patti was over this morning
while I went to church and fed mom along with getting her dressed. Patti said her word of the day for mom was
delightful and talkative. I meet up with
my usual friends at church and had brunch.
Mom had just got out of the bathroom when I got home so we went for a
drive. It was a mostly cloudy day with
temps in the 40’s. We drove part way to
Grafton then Sioux Passage Park on the way back. Mom was very happy, talkative and alert on
our drive. She was doing a lot more
pointing things out than her normal. We
did not see any boats or barges on the river but did see a few people on the
bike/hike trail. Mom then went to the
bathroom when we got back before we both took a nap. I was going to take another drive but was
just so tired. I slept until dinner
time. The last time mom ate was 6pm and
she went to bed at 11:30pm. Mom was much
more alert and talkative this evening as well at least compared to her
normal. Overall this was a very good day
for mom. She also needed less help
changing into her nightgown.
Saturday March 2nd 2013
Mom did have a bladder accident just before dinner and I
then put her into her nightgown. I had
Patti over in the morning so I could go to the Wild at Heart boot camp retreat
this was the fourth Saturday of nine. Patti
had fed mom breakfast and dressed when I got home at 11:30am. We ate lunch when I got home then a breakfast
trip before our Saturday drive. It was a
partly sunny day with temps in the 30’s.
We drove along the river road to Grafton IL then Sioux Passage Park on
the way back. We saw 3 barges but no
other boats on the river and a few people on the hike/bike trail. We talked about our normal amount. We watched a little TV when we got back
before dinner. The last time mom ate was
5:30pm and went to bed at midnight.
Overall mom was in good spirits.
Friday March 1st 2013
Mom did not have any bladder or bowel accidents today or
overnight. Mom was in the bathroom when
I left at 5:30am for my men’s fraternity meeting. Afterwards I went to the Waffle House for
breakfast then ran some errands but did not get in any naps. It was a cloudy snowy day with temps in the
30’s way below the average for this time of year. Mom was going to the bathroom when I got home
by 4pm. Andrea said her word of the day
for mom was unbalanced and Patti said hers was quiet. Mom was distant at first when I got home but
my silliness changed that. We ate dinner
at 5pm then watched TV and laughed the rest of the night. Mom did do some wondering around the house a
few times starting around 8:30pm. Mom
was both sweet today and distant. Mom
went to bed at 11pm and needed less than her normal amount of help with
changing.
